"The real culprits are the criminals": Patricia Bullrich defended the police officer who shot Thiago Correa.

Security MinisterPatricia Bullrich supported the actions of Fácundo Daniel Aguilar Fajardo , the federal police officer who wounded a 7-year-old boy with his service weapon during a shootout. The officer was arrested for excessive self-defense; however, Bullrich asserted that "he acted in self-defense and that the thieves are to blame."

During a press conference, the head of security addressed the incident that took place early Thursday morning in La Matanza, when four armed criminals approached Fajardo and attempted to rob him. The officer, who was off duty, responded with his service weapon and, in the midst of the exchange of gunfire, shot 7-year-old Thiago Benjamin Correa Medina in the head.

"Those directly responsible for Thiago's situation are the criminals . One of them died in the self-defense carried out by Facundo Aguilar Fajardo in the line of duty as a federal police officer," Bullrich argued, noting that "an officer who acted in self-defense cannot be tried."

The minister clarified: "This incident is not a coincidence; it was a causal relationship. The reason Thiago is in this situation now is because these four criminals went out to rob him of his life. The robbers' actions amount to assault ." In this regard, the minister announced that they would seek to change the investigation to " attempted homicide ." "That is the government's position," she stated.

The case is currently classified as "attempted robbery in a populated area by a gang, involving the use of a firearm whose suitability for firing cannot be proven, in addition to homicide and serious injuries." To this, the minister asserted that Aguiar "was prepared to use his service weapon." "It is clear that by using his weapon, one of the criminals ended up dead and two others injured . The police officer had the specific shooting conditions to prevent the criminals from getting away with it as if nothing had happened," she added.

Bullrich also took aim at Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof , whom she blamed for the insecurity in the Province of Buenos Aires . " He should provide security and he has to take charge of the situation in the Province ," she said. After the press conference, the San Justo Children's Hospital, where Thiago Correa remains hospitalized, reported that the child is brain dead.
